The 2016 Minnesota Bred Ewe Sale was held November 26 in Rochester, MN. It is managed by the MHSA. Twenty-three consignors sold 56 sheep (5 breeds and wether type) for an average price of $472.77. Nine Hampshire consignors sold 20 entries for a $551.25 average. The Champion Hampshire, a yearling was consigned by the Randy Dombek Family of Ivanhoe, MN and sold to Greenway Farm (Jon & Laird Mork) of Beldenville, WI for $1050. The Reserve Champion Hampshire was a January lamb entered by Ram’n Acres/Rodney Scheller. She sold to Christian Tifft of Spirit Lake, Iowa for $1100.

The Minnesota Bred Ewe Sale will again be held at Rochester, MN on November 26, 2016. The sale has a long tradition at this site as a place to purchase top quality bred ewes and also open ewe lambs. Several state breed associations also provide scholarship incentives for junior breeders to be used on purchases at the sale which adds to the sale demand. We encourage you to enter your top quality sheep at this sale.
2016 MN State Hampshire Show

Show Committee
Tom Bobendrier and Bob Koehler are the coordinators for the State Hampshire Show
- Entries must be pre-registered and mailed by August 1st, 2016 to Tom Bobendrier. Entry information will be entered onto a computer spreadsheet, and will also be used to assign penning.
- Registration papers will be checked.
- Classes will be built and sorted from the computer spreadsheet, and this information will be printed into programs and available for all exhibitors and spectators on show day. Martin County Fair will provide the clerk for the show.
- There will be slick shorn classes for ram and ewe lambs in each age category as well as for yearling ewes
- There will be a “Come Back” SPECIAL CLASS for yearling ewes that were -purchased as a lamb by the exhibitor at the MN Bred Ewe Sale the previous fall
- There will be a class for lambs and yearlings bought in dam at the MN Bred Ewe Sale.
Dates
- Pre-Registration mailed by August 1st.
- Enter sheep by noon on Friday, August 19th.
- State Hampshire Show at 9:00 am on Saturday, August 20.
- Release 6:00pm on Sunday, Aug. 21.
Fees
- $2.00 per head entry fee. $6.00 adult gate admission on Friday and Sunday, $9.00 on Saturday. (Many nationally known entertainers/concerts are free for all fair attendees.)
2015 Minnesota Bred Ewe Sale Recap
The Minnesota Bred Ewe and Ewe Lamb Sale was held Saturday, November 28 at Rochester, MN. Sixty-four head of Hampshires, Suffolks, Dorsets, Columbias, and wether dams averaged $529.69. Twenty-five Hampshires averaged $635 with a top of $1125. See the sale report for details. The five MHSA $200 scholarship recipients all purchased sheep in the sale. The sale is managed by the Minnesota Hampshire Sheep Association.
Minutes of 2015 Summer Meeting

Meeting called to order at 1:15, following the Minnesota Hampshire Show and picnic, by President Bruce Bakken.
State Show
Wambeam Hampshires were recognized as a new state show exhibitor. Jeff Held was thanked for judging the state show. 2015 State Show numbered 93 entries.

Reserve Champion Ram – Christian - Tifft Fall ram lamb.
Champion Ewe – Bobendrier Boys – 1st class yearling ewe.

MHSA Special premiums of $50 were paid to Christian Tifft in class B and Art Frame in class C.

MN Bred Ewe Sale
The bred ewe sale was discussed and a working committee was established:
Boyer – line up facilities. Frame – advertising, Koehler – send out sale information, solicit entries, and assemble a sale catalog.
MN State Fair
Support for 4-H and FFA shows was discussed. The Hampshire association moved to continue providing champion and reserve champion awards for Hampshire exhibitors in 4-H and FFA shows. A cash premium to all State Fair 4-H Hampshire sheep exhibitors was approved at $100 for champion, $50 for reserve champion, and $25 for remaining exhibitors.
